Jon Day

Is my brother in law.
And I'm proud to call him that.
I love him.
He's an amazing:
Father
Husband
Brother
Christ Lover.
He came to see me today here at CBU and I just loved every second of it.
We enjoyed chapel, a quaint meal at the caf with some lovely friends of mine and a few deep conversations and mostly prayer.

James is our favorite.
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

AMEN BROTHA.

appropriate

“As we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost. And when that happens, I guess she has to let go of the coulda, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going.”
— Carrie

Here we come weekend

Just got back from the CBU vs. JWC Volleyball game and now a wonderful movie pick, Moulin Rouge with my darling friend Hannah.

Get comfortable, because this is a long one

Someone mentioned to me, "Alaina, I read your blog all the time and can't figure out your lil secret to being so happy and well put together all the time."
This made me giggle.
My response was way longer than this post will be, but in summary, my life is far from "put together". She did however get one part right, I am a happy person. I'd rather spend my time with a smile on my face then a frown. I have God to thank for that. But when I'm sad, I'm sad and that means I need my alone time to regather my thoughts.
In a way this blog is therapeutic for me. I know others will be reading it and I'm not trying to be fake by only writing about the positive things going on in my life, but I mean come on, would you really want to read a sappy post about how a bad day I'm having or how sometimes I slip a bad word here and there?
There's this blog I have followed for over a year now, her name is Melissa, I am completely obsessed with her life (cue laughter). I found this to be, because her posts are always so positive and uplifting and I remember once someone asking her the same thing they asked me about her life, and her life is just as messy as the next, but instead of dwelling on negative things she only posts about happy times and that's exactly how I feel.
If you are close to me, you know what my struggles are in life. If you aren't so close to me, change that if you really want to know that bad. I'm pretty much an open book,  If you are curious about something, come up to me and make conversation, but Well Hello There Darling is a place where I won't share the ugly.

May Someone

Please enlighten me about these French Macaroons? I've never had one, I know GASP. What do they taste like and what's the big hype about them? I've given up sweets so please explain in full detail!!!

“Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.”
— Anaïs Nin

So there's this thing I want to talk to you about...

TRUST.

Today's chapel totally spoke to me. Dr. Micah Parker did it once again, he had me open eared and open hearted the entire service.
Something I've always had struggle with would basically be summed up in 1 Peter 5:7

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

I have always known that God needs to handle my problems, but I've never fully given them to him. That's exactly what I want and NEED to do.

Another thing Dr. Parker talked about was sorrow. We all go through at least one sorrow in life. Now I wouldn't say I've been through "horrifying" sorrow, I've had my share of "mild" sorrow I suppose, but when the day comes I know I will have my amazing maker protecting me.

Guys and gals...PLEASE just TRUST in God. If you give it all to him there will be no more looking back.

Romans 8:28 "In all things, God works for the good of those who love him."

To God:
I love you.
love: Alaina

It feels

like summer.
Out on the front lawn here at CBU with:
  1. A great book titled Alphabet Weekend (that I've read 3 times)
  2. New Music by Portugal. The Man.
  3. My dad's old mexican blanket. I'll now call it my vintage mexicali blanky.
  4. And a few blank cards for 3 lovely girls.

I love this weather.

Recap

Long Beach was a blast. Such a nice lil weekend get away.
Hannah and I always make the best of every situation and I thank God daily for blessing me with such a beautiful friend inside and out.
We went to Huntington as well.  Probably one of my favorite feelings in the world is driving down PCH with the windows down, my hair goin crazy as usual and the music turned up with everyone in the car using those vocal chords loud and clear. love love love.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Sometimes it might be nice to have a place to call home (besides my parents place that is)

Becky and I had a best friend date which was way over due!
We went to see Alice In Wonderland. Now I heard good and bad things about this movie, so naturally I went in a little hesitant. Good ol' Tim does it once again and proves everyone that said negative things about this film wrong...in my eyes that is. Great music by Danny Elfman and great performances by Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Matt Lucas. Bravo.

Like Clock Work

Every Tuesday I paint my nails after class.
Today I wanted to rock a mint green, just in time for St. Patties day!
Hope you all are having a splendid afternoon.

Thursday

It was a magical day. I was reminded that one of the greatest treasures in life is friendship and that I am wealthy beyond measure.
I had my low moments today, which don't happen often so when they do my friends always seem to know the exact things I need.
For instance:
  • a long lunch date
  • a 4 mile bike ride
  • a lonnnnnng hug
  • a movie night with my brothers
  • a good cry
  • a heartwarming card
  • a forever 21 gift card
  • a good laugh
I've been blessed. That's all I can say.

addicted?

yup, I'd say so.

Wouldn't it be nice to run away to this lil beauty? 103-year-old Clingstone mansion set on a rock island in Narragansett Bay is owned by Boston architect Henry Wood. Even though the all-wood home with 360-degree view of the ocean is quite old and rough it’s still warm and beautiful. Three stories tall house features 23 rooms, 10 of which are bedrooms. Even though the house is quite expensive to maintain because of it’s made of wood, it still use modern technologies to cut pay bills. Solar panels heat the water, and a wind turbine on the roof generates electricity. Rainwater is collected in a 3,000-gallon cistern, then filtered, treated and pumped through the house for cleaning purposes. Besides that, Clingstone house use the latest technologies in filtering seawater and the most up-to-date composting toilets.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
